Bird Language Bundle

Birding Bundle

The Birding Bundle is a free, comprehensive resource designed for educators, parents, and nature enthusiasts looking to engage children in bird-watching and bird language education. At its core is a four-level progressive curriculum built around the “Sit Spot” activity, which encourages observation, reflection, and deeper understanding of bird behavior. Each level gradually introduces new skills, including written and oral recording, mapping exercises, and group discussions to uncover the hidden meaning behind bird activity.

To support educators, the bundle includes a Common Core curriculum standards alignment document, making it easy to connect bird-watching lessons to K-3 grade-level learning objectives. Additionally, students can use a Bird Language Symbols page to help them take notes in the field, making observations more engaging and accessible. For a smooth and successful bird-watching experience, the bundle also provides a “Bird Watching Tips & Tricks” guide, offering practical advice to help both educators and children get the most out of their time outdoors.

Whether you’re a classroom teacher, forest school leader, homeschool parent, or simply someone who wants to foster a love for nature in children, this resource is designed to support and enhance the bird-watching experience for learners of all backgrounds.

Nature and Place: Developing a Curriculum Framework Unique to Your Site:

Are you an Educator who is passionate about nature and place-based learning? This workbook is designed with you in mind. Focusing on a particular site, such as a park or school yard where you will be teaching students, this workbook guides for you through a site assessment to help you get to know your site intimately, to create a framework that you can use to design your curriculum. Over the 22 pages of this workbook, you will spend a couple of days immersed in learning about your site, all the while creating a resource inventory, and a seasonal chart of curriculum ideas, based around the specific site where your students will be learning. This resource is great to use with colleagues, as it prompts you to consider how you intend to use your outdoor learning space to best serve the students, and how you may adapt it over time.

Outdoor Game Instruction Cards: Visual Aids for Summer Camp Counselors, Teachers, Environmental Educators, and Facilitators. 20 Active Games

Outdoor Game Instruction Cards

Outdoor Game Instruction Cards: Visual Aids for Summer Camp Counselors, Teachers, Environmental Educators, and Facilitators. 20 Active Games

These visual instruction cards are a compilation of twenty of my favorite outdoor games from my eighteen-year career as an environmental educator, summer camp counselor, and forest-school Director. I’ve designed these images and written instructions make it easier for visual learners to understand the directions of games, with comic-style images that hold the attention of students who are eager to play a new game.

This set of 20 games includes running, sneaking, role-playing, teamwork, and agility/strategy games. They can be played with very little materials, most requiring only bandanas. Most games are appropriate for ages 5-12, but there are a few that are better for one end of that age spectrum of the other. All games are ideal for groups of 4 children or more.

After you download the game cards, I suggest printing and laminating them and using them as an instructional aid when teaching a new game, and as a visual reminder of the rules throughout the game.

If you have any questions on gameplay specifics, feel free to reach out to me!
